RESPONSE TO A CHANGING WORLD

During the Covid-19 epidemic Twin Rivers decided to attach a charitable element to the business. We wanted to create a foundation fund that would assist those with limited funding for treatment. With the help of Barries Ferreira & Partners (Chartered Accounts) and the creation of a Board of Directors we managed to register our NPO called The Dragonfly Foundation in December 2020- NPO 253-031.

The challenge now was how to get donations and how to effectively utilize the foundations funds.

HOW DOES THIS FOUNDATION WORK ?

  1. The foundation funds will be ‘managed’ by Barries Ferreira & Partners Accountants, a recognised independent- international company specialising in audit-accountancy-advisory, tax and legal services.
Before Barries Ferreira & Partners release any funds to Twin Rivers a written explanation would have to be submitted for approval promoting effective record keeping as required for an NPC. Three Directors have been appointed to assist in the management of the foundation two of whom are not directly involved with Twin Rivers.
  2. The foundation is not simply offering ‘free’ treatment to clients as this would be incredibly difficult to assess genuine entitlement. The board agreed that it would be more appropriate and more productive to use foundation funds to assist those who can make a small contribution of their own. When a client contributes towards their recovery then they are more likely to take the process more seriously.
  3. Consideration for financial assistance from the Dragonfly Foundation includes the following scenarios:-
    •  a client has been a full fee-paying resident, clearly requires more treatment but has limited access to further funding.
    • a client who cannot afford the medical or pocket money float may be considered for funding.
    • In exceptional cases the foundation will consider funding a client who simply cannot afford residential treatment fees. This would be scrutinised very closely, and the client will still be expected to contribute financially on some level.
  4. Clients are not expected to repay foundation funds but if they should they find themselves in a position to be able to repay then that’s acceptable, but it will not be an expectation as this would place unnecessary pressure on a person in early recovery.
  5. Clients receiving financial assistance from the foundation will experience the same quality of care as those paying full treatment fees.
  6. Dragonfly Foundation policy and procedure on confidentiality will confirm that clients who utilize foundation funds will remain anonymous and exposure of foundation-based clients for advertising or any other purpose would be deemed a breach of confidentiality.

‘ Addiction and mental health issues are at a critical level globally and a high percentage of these lost souls cannot afford professional intervention. Twin Rivers is proud to be contributing in some small way and I would like to thank those who are supporting and donating to The DRAGONFLY FOUNDATION’
